World Cup XVI : Netherlands wins the Overall men’s and Youth title, Wales the Womens title
Dong Energy World Cup XVI is finished and a record number of 41 countries from six continents participated in it, debut countries like Turkey, Iceland and Trinidad and Tobago.
Netherlands is crowned as the overall Men’s champions and the Youth Champions wile Wales won the overall women’s title. Wales’ Mark Webster is the truly deserved new singles champion. He took over the title from Dick van Dijk and after winning the European title in Ireland last year, he is really the best player in the World, according the WDF system. The Ladies singles title also went to Wales. In an all Welsch encounter, Jan Robbins beat Julie Gore and with this result she follows up Clare Bywaters from England. The pairs titles went to Holland’s Mario Robbe and Joey ten Berge. They took over the title from Van Barneveld/Van der Voort and the pairs’ title for the women went to Russia’s Anastasia Dobromyslova and Irina Armstrong. The team event went after six years again to England. In a very close encounter they twice came back from a break behind to beat the Dutch. In the deciding leg is was captain Martin Adams who took the title on his fourth dart on the double, after young ten Berge had missed ten! Darts to also take the mens’ event title. Darts is truly a World sport. This was proven by the youngsters Tibor Tax from Hungary and Linda Odén from Sweden who took respectively the boys and girls singles title. It were Maarten ten Pape, the European and Winmau World Champion and Thea Kaaijk who took the Youth mixed pairs title.

Dick van Dijk released from the hospital
After a serious heart operation Dick van Dijk was released last weekend from the hospital. Reigning WDF World Cup Singles Champion Dick van Dijk was two weeks ago admitted to the Leyenburg Hospital in The Hague suffering with severe chest pains. Unfortunately the diagnosis revealed that Dick has severe heart problems and was undergoing a "by-pass" surgery last Monday. Dick is now been released from the hospital to recover from his operation what will been taken over more than 5 weeks. Off course we wish Dick and his family all the best and will do everything to support him with a speedy recovery.
Dave Dempsey released from the hospital
Mastercaller Dave ‘darts’ Demspey has been released on Wednesday the 3rd of October from the Hospital at Hull after having a one way car accident. Dave smacked to a three after making a manoeuvre to avoid hitting something that was crossing the road. Dave was been treaded very good in the hospital and suffered with some broken ribs and a head injury. After Dave’s condition was stable the doctors decided to release him from the hospital. The complete team of watchdarts wishes Dave all the best for a good recovery.
Rilana Erades and Erwin Extercatte winners of the 1st Rixax Darts Grand Prix Almere Erwin Extercatte has won the 1st edition of the Darts Grand Prix held in Almere on 30 September. With over 300 entries includes 50 women’s entries tournament director Rob van Toor could look back to a great weekend with a wonderful atmosphere. Extercatte fought is his way to the finals by beaten Matt Clark and youngster Fabian Roosenbrand. The semi final were held on stage and beat 7-5 Patrick van Gelder who had really a wonderful tournament. His opponent in the final was Dutch pro-player Edwin Max who had beaten Frans Harmsen in the semi final. Spectators could see a class act of darts with a lot of excitement and emotions. Afteral the last en decided leg was won by Extercatte and beat Max with a 8-7 fictory. Rilana Erades took the womens title by beaten Chantal Snijders with a massive 5-0 victory.

Now possible to enter for the 2nd edition of Holland's Didam Open!
One of the nicest tournaments is the Didam Open championship held in Didam's sporting complex “Action Sports” during the weekend of 7 and 8 June. Didam is located near Arnhem and easy to reach by public transport. On Saturday the pairs championship will be held and the main event, the singles tournament, will be held on Sunday.

Entries open for the 2nd edition of De Borgh Open
With over 350 singles entries for the 2007 event, sponsors have singed a five years contract with Watchdarts event “De Borgh Open”. The second edition will be held in the same weekend as last year namely Saturday 12 and Sunday 13th of July. The tournament will be held during the complete weekend and participants have the possibility to book accommodation against special rates. On Saturday evening a special pairs tournament will be held to complete the weekend full of darts, fun and entertainment. The single tournament has a 8.000,- euro's price money structure. Mark Webster winner Lakeside World PRO 2008
The Welshman was crowned champion of the world after toppling Aussie builder Simon Whitlock 7-5 after a thrilling 111 minutes of top action. The 24-year-old left-hander from Denbigh conjured up some magical darts to dash the title hopes of the 38-year-old Wizard of Oz. Webster now joins the late great Leighton Rees and Burnett as title-winners from the Principality.
John Part claimed victory in the 2008 Ladbrokes.com PDC World Darts Championship with a ruthless 7-2 demolition of Kirk Shepherd at London's Alexandra Palace. Qualifier Shepherd defied all odds to battle through to the final in a stunning World Championship debut, with the 21-year-old from Ramsgate seeing off five big-name opponents, including Terry Jenkins, Peter Manley and Wayne Mardle, on his way to the final. Robert Thornton puts away Adams and Fitton to take the Winmau World Masters title
Scotsman Robert Thornton produced some impressive darts to beat Darryl Fitton 7-5 in the Winmau World Masters final.
The West Ayrshire veteran took the final three sets after a fluctuating encounter at Bridlington. Fitton manufactured a marvellous 170 finish in the second leg of the fifth set and had edged 5-4 ahead before the Scot's determined recovery. Thornton's victory also earns him a place in the BDO World Championships at Frimley Green starting in January. Fitton, who had beaten Jon Walton earlier in the afternoon, fought back to level at 4-4 after Thorton had been 4-2 up after the interval. He then edged ahead but Thornton produced a stunning 156 checkout to level at 5-5. Having claimed the 11th set as well, Thornton won the first leg of the next against the darts. A maximum left him with 81 for the title and he made no mistake with his second shot at double 18.

Winmau sign up and coming Dutch talent Mareno Michels
Winmau became the official sponsor to the 21 year old up and coming Dutch talent Mareno Michels, nickname The Miracle, who in September 2005 reached the quarter finals of the World Darts Trophy, and earned enough points for his international break through into the famous Lakeside World Championships in 2006. Mareno who plays in the Dutch National Squad was brought to Winmau's attention by darts Legend Andy "The Viking"Fordham, as he spotted him whilst playing on the World darts circuit in Holland. Andy said "Mareno had something very different about him, he is very calm and controls his emotions well, wich will stand him good stead for the pressure he will face as he plays more and more on the World biggest stages. Mareno has joined Winmau on a 2 year contract as he develops into a full time darts Profesional, and with nearly 10 years tournament experience undr his belt Mareno will certainly be a force to be reckoned with over the next decade. Good results for watchdarts.com team during Open Venlo 2007
The recently introduced members of the watchdarts.com team did a fantastic job during the Venlo Open 2007 tournament held in the weekend of 11 and 12 August. During the pairs event held on Saturday the 11th 5 members of the team booked great results at the last 16 knowing Van Toor/Veenendaal (9th), Michels/Ernst (3rd) and with Van Dijk/Harmsen into the final who’s got defeated by Gary Anderson/Gary Robson. Due to sponsorship agreements Mareno Michels couldn’t be entered at the single event witch has also very good results for the team. Veenendaal earned himself a place at the last 64, Harmsen just lost from Mervyn King (4-3) at the last 16 (video) and Van Dijk with a place in the semi final whereby he lost from Braulio Roncero with 5-4 and got 3rd overall. Mareno Michels signs management agreement
Mareno Michels is a talented Dutch player with a great future of darts a head of him. Due to the fact Mareno could focus himself to darts he has already a magnificent darts career at the age of 21 with 2005 as absolute top year. In that year he was participant of the Bavaria World Darts Trophy and got himself a place at the Lakeside Worldchampionship in 2006. For the future Mareno will focus himself again to the national circuit and we are proud to support him with our management team. Dutch talented and former Dutch Champion Frans Harmsen signs a management agreement witch watchdarts.com. After a period of silence Frans will be back at the oche. We as his management team are delighted to have such a talented player as Frans in our team. We wish Frans all the best in his future darts carrier. BDO/WDF world champion 2005-2007 Dick van Dijk signs a management agreement with watchdarts.com with owner Rob van Toor as his personal manager. With this deal watchdarts.com offers participants highly interesting sponsorship deals and Dick can focus himself on his professional career.
